GHANA ASANTE. AFRICA.THE JUABENS, A PROUD AND NOBLE PEOPLE.KUMASI ACCRA UNCLE OF OTUMFUO ASANTEHENE.
A PICTORIAL RENDITION OF NOTABLES(DECEASED AND ALIVE) OF JUABENMAN, IE JUABEN AND NEW JUABEN. PRIOR TO THE FOUNDING OF ASANTE, OR ASHANTI AS SOME HAVE IT, JUABEN IT WAS OF THE PRE-EXISTING STATES THAT WAS THE MOST POWERFUL AND HIGHLY ADVANCED IN STATECRAFT--ACCORDING TO THE DICTATES OF THE TWI CUSTOM. UNLIKE ANY OTHER, IT WAS ALREADY A FULLY-FLEDGED KINGDOM AS THE AKAN CONCEPTION OF A KINGDOM ENTAILED. INFACT, IT WAS TO THE JUABEN KING OKYEREFUO ADAE ADARKWA KO-YIADOM I, THAT OKOMFO ANOKYE THE GREAT SAGE, DISCLOSED FIRSTLY, AT JUABEN, HIS PLAN OF UNITING ALL THE STATES OF ASANTE UNDER A COMMON SYMBOL OF NATIONHOOD AND OF INTENDING TO MAKE ASANTE A GREAT KINGDOM/EMPIRE. OTHER NOTABLE STATES THEN WERE KWAMAN(NOW KUMASI), KUMAWU, MAMPONG, ASUMEGYA AND ADUABEN. CERTAINLY THE MARTIAL PROWESS OF JUABEN WAS CONFIRMED WHEN THEY GRASPED THE VICTORY, IN THE GREAT, EPIC AND CRITICAL INCEPTIONAL WAR OF ASANTE. AFTER THAT EPIC BATTLE, JUABEN(DWABEN) PLAYED DECISIVE, INFACT WON THE MILITARY LAURELS IN OTHER SUBSEQUENT CRITICAL WARS OF ASANTE. INDEED, ONE OF THE APPELLATIONS OF THE JUABENHENE, KING OF JUABEN, IS THAT OF: ASUO YIRI A, NA Y3 FR3 WO), MEANING ASANTEMAN CALLS ON THE JUABENHENE AND JUABENS WHEN THE SITUATION BECOMES CRITICAL. UPON THE FOUNDING OF ASANTE, AND WITH KWAMAN, SUBSEQUENTLY KUMASI BEING CHOSEN AS ITS CAPITAL ((AFTER A CONTEST INVOLVING JUABEN, KWAMAN AND KUMAWU, A CONTEST OKOMFO ANOKYE OBVIOUSLY SKEWED IN FAVOUR OF HIS BOSOM FRIEND OSEI TUTU I)), PROMINENCE ...

At Buduburam Refugee Camp, Accra, Ghana
At Buduburam Refugee Camp, Accra, Ghana
This is the camp, where I met Lulu's Mom and Brother (Shedrick, he's in the red jersey) and some of their long time neighbors. Everyone was very nice to me. It was very hot, so just being in that heat was hard on me. Can you tell by the way I act? This was, however, a very good experience. After so long of hearing about the camp on the phone, I finally got to see it in real life. The roads in the camp area are all dirt, and have some big potholes. In the last few years, they got electricity, but it's not on 24 hours. They have to walk to a central place to get water. The houses are very small and made from mud brick, and painted green. Malaria is a very big concern there because there is no sewer system. It was an amazing experience being there, and I wish I could go again some day.

Eating Banku + Okra Soup in Accra, Ghana
Banku and Kenkey are two more Fufu-like staples from Western Africa, served with a soup or stew or sauce. They are particularly popular in Ghana. Both are usually made from ground corn (maize), as are Sadza and Ugali, though Banku can also be made from a mixture of maize and grated Cassava tuber.

In an old German educational film surfboats are seen loading a Dutch ship of the Holland West Afrika Lijn. I wonder whether it is still customary to load ships there that way nowadays.

Riding in the Taxi in Accra, Ghana
Riding in the Taxi in Accra, Ghana
This was a compilation of several video clips. You will see many things in this video, and get a feel for how it was riding through town. This was an amazing experience for me. One that I never imagined. It was very hot, no AC, lots of traffic, and lots of scenery. They had Total and Shell gas stations there. Warm bottled water, and warm coke. All the chicken was GRILLED but it came with fries. The pizza was ok but toppings were sparsely spaced on it. The best food was at the Mall of Accra, which I didn't get any video of. I wish I could go spend an entire week or 2 weeks with her. For anyone thinking about going to Africa, make sure you know someone there. I never would have gone unless it was to be with my Honey. I knew I could trust her with my life, and she came through for me with flying colors. I just wish getting someone to come to the US wasn't so hard and didn't cost so much.

La Badi Beach Rubbbbish LaBadi Beach Accra Ghana Sep2009
La Badi Beach Rubbbbish LaBadi Beach Accra Ghana Sep2009
By: ghana-net.com Labadi Beach one year after the first video. Not more relaxing, just stressing, loud, unfriendly, rubbbbish! Some noisi rastafa fans playing over loud music, not easy to understand even the own word! A tourist tryed to argue with those people ..ended nearly in a fight! The Videeo was filmed on the 19th of September.. also close to the opening of the World Tourism Day - 2009 in Ghana! On this very day also the "Management" of the beach changed..That means in fact: an other just money interested GA Chief is now cashing the money, without delivering any quality! Weekend gate fee is now 5 cedis (nearly $4 ) and weedays 3 cedis. You`ll get a TICKED on the ENTRANCE and some few metres further some "STAF" is checking your ticket.. and is taking`it back.. thats a good way of cashing the same ticked 2-3-5 times.. as you get a stamp on your hand when you want to leave the beach for return.. So - enjoy your time! PS. BEST BEACHES in Ghana by now are BOJO Beach & Kokrobite Beach (and area)-just 40 min drive from Accra - direction Winneba.
